Mold Remediators

What Do Mold Remediators Do To Get Rid Of Mold?

Picture
Mold can be a bother and nuisance to any property and therefore it's much better to prevent it rather than deal with its damaging effects. Not to mention the possible health problems that can be caused by mold. The following steps are some of what's involved in the mold remediation process:

  • Step 1: Learn about moisture. When assessing mold growth, you have to be very keen as it is an invisible intruder sometimes. It's important to keep in mind that mold growth is mainly due to water or moisture. Therefore you should be in a position to know where moisture comes from and how it gets in the house.

  • Step 2: Document the mold problem and create an effective mold remediation plan. Just before mold remediators apply the appropriate plan, the mold situation is sometimes documented with photos, video and writing. This will help in coming up with a proper remediation plan. This plan will usually also include when the work is scheduled to kick off and when it is to end.

  • Step 3: Calculate the extent of contamination. Mold grows in many areas and most of the time, it can spread quite fast. It is therefore important to note the extent to which its contamination has occurred. This will impact how mold remediators employ the necessary plan and mold removal techniques.

  • Step 4: Remediate mold contamination. This involves cleaning up existing mold and preventing new growth by addressing the moisture source. Based on the proper examining of the affected area, the professionals will apply different remediation techniques.

  • Step 5:  The clean-up process. This involves repairing the water problem as it will help in preventing new mold spores from growing. They will have to isolate the contaminated area by closing all doors and windows between the area affected and other rooms in the house. Mist the contaminated areas in order to reduce the amount of dust present. They make sure to remove all wet and mold-damaged porous materials from the affected area and discard all wet and moldy materials in plastic bags. Next, they clean all non-porous materials and wood surfaces that have been infested by mold and then wipe the area with disposable wipes. To ensure a job well done, all the affected areas should be visibly free of all contamination and debris. If you see no dust and dirt then it's easier to see if there is no mold. Drying is one of the last and most important steps of the processes. Therefore you should allow all cleaned materials to dry and for the moisture to evaporate from them. Finally, the pros employ the use of fans, dehumidifiers and raising the internal air temperature to speed up the drying process.

  • Step 6: Determining whether the clean-up was successful. The last step is to determine if there was a completion of the cleaning process. In addition to visual inspection, special meters are used to make sure that the moisture problem is fixed.

After the mold remediators finish the job properly, you should not see any signs of recurring water damage otherwise there is still a problem. You should also not see any signs of visible mold or any moldy odors. Additional testing by an environmental testing company may be performed after cleaning process.
